There is not a single hard edge in this piece. Agrippa Ndongwe turns mother and child into ribbons of stone that wrap, cross and return, two lives in one continual flow that cannot be pulled apart. Every curve is balanced against an open space, so the sculpture changes completely as you circle it, and its bronze toned surface moves like metal in the light.
Ndongwe is considered among the best of the artists working in this style, and his hope for these pieces is that the grace of the stone's movement reaches people anywhere in the world. It stands two feet tall on its own carved base.
