The child comes first in this piece. It presses into the space between its parents, arms wrapped around them, while the taller figures bend to meet it, and Agrippa Ndongwe lets the three bodies pour into one another until no figure could be lifted out without taking the other two along.
For Ndongwe that flow is the whole subject: family as one continual movement, never apart. The stone is mottled brown and green, polished until the surfaces roll under the light.
Fifteen inches tall and six inches wide, it reads beautifully from every side.
