"Guro Mask" is a highly stylized Ram Mask hand crafted by the Guro Tribe of the Ivory Coast. It is easily hung on any wall in your home or office. The elegant mask was made in 1983 in the shape of a human head with two sets of curved horns and belongs to the category of Dye (or Je mask).
The Dye ceremony is a men's dance group consisting of a number of animal masks that are fearsome and powerful. The Dye dance troop consists of hyena, elephant, buffalo, ram, roan antelopes, hippopotamus, monkeys and dogs.
The Dye masks are supreme symbols of male authority, and were prominent in the past, whereas today they still dance in the village but mostly appear at the funerals of prominent persons. The strong and long horns and facial features reinforce the idea of abstracted power, as Dye becomes the embodiment of male energy. Such masks are usually worn on the head with a large grassy costume.
This lightweight mask can be easily mounted to the wall or mounted on a custom made mask stand that is included with your purchase.
