The Chief

Regular price $2,500.00

Joseph Tozo gives the chief a real face: a lined brow, steady eyes, a graying beard, a crest sweeping back from the crown of his head, an ornament hanging at his ear. His robe knots across one shoulder, and the bust rises from a base of raw, unworked stone.

Tozo prefers the harder stones, verdite, golden serpentine and serpentine, and is regarded among the best sculptors of his generation, with work held by collectors and institutions around the world. His subjects lean toward tenderness, inspired by his wife, his four children and the traditional values of his community, and the chief wears that same quiet dignity.

The bust is 15 inches tall.
