Lepidolite is known as a stone of transition, believed to ease old patterns loose and settle the mind, and it suits two brothers leaning on each other. One head rests just behind the other, muzzles forward, paws folded together at the base, the pair carved from a single block speckled gold, green and black.
Fungai Mwarowa holds that he can work any stone no matter how hard, and lepidolite is the proof; few sculptors in Zimbabwe will touch it. His creatures are imaginative, and as always with Mwarowa, there is something human in the way these two sit together. The piece is 11 inches tall.
