This one of a kind decorative carved wood panel is from Mali. The panel is embellished with both abstract and figurative designs. Most panels depict a narrative of a village scene. The significance of the central seated male figure is emphasized by the many servants, both male and female, who surround him involved in different tasks. It is probable that they are catering to the individual’s social community.
