York's Shona Gallery presents the "Helmet Mask" by the Fang tribe of Cameroon. Upon first look, one can see heart-shaped faces, painted white, look out in four directions from a dark, domed helmet. The mask is worn over the head for the purpose of sorcery.
At 13" tall, the mask is hand carved from wood and was made in 1962. It is lightweight and can be mounted on the wall or displayed on the custom mask stand included with your purchase.
Fang masks were acquired and relished by modernist artists such as Picasso and Matisse.
