"Swan" is a piece about contrast. The bird itself is serpentine polished to a deep green shine, its neck diving down through the stone and curling back in one unbroken line. Everything around it is left raw: a rough triangular block, pale at its edges and rust orange where the minerals surface.
Kanse carved both from a single piece, which is exactly the point; the swan was always in there. This is the only work by this world renowned artist in our gallery.
At 25 inches tall it lives as well in a garden as in a living room, and it does not tarnish or deteriorate in rain or snow.
