Two heads lean together at the top of this piece, and between them the child stretches both arms upward, asking to be lifted. Agrippa Ndongwe is known for exactly this: figures joined in one fluid line, with the balance of the sculpture carried as much by its open spaces as by the stone itself.
His families are never posed; they move. The stone blushes pink and red across its surface, and the whole composition rests on a carved base of the same block. The piece is 13 inches tall.
